From the studio
Created for House Show at The 4801, Where the Heart Is is my answer to what home means to me. At its center is my family, Mary Ann, Jettie, and me, with a single heart drawing everything inward through our daughter. Around us are symbols of the larger world, love, art, alchemy, observation, nature, and the strange forces that make up a life. Prime numbers are hidden throughout the entire painting, in the rooms, hearts, birds, lettering, and the patterned snake that wraps around the canvas. They became a kind of protective mathematics, an unseen structure surrounding the family at the center. For me, home is not simply a place. It is the space created around the people at the heart of it. Where the Heart Is will be on display throughout October at The 4801 as part of House Show.
