White Tears, Reggaetón Beats

Conservatives heard Spanish at the Super Bowl and lost their minds

Let me just start with this:

If your brain short-circuits because a Puerto Rican man dares to headline the Super Bowl halftime show, you might already be too far gone. If your solution is an “alternative halftime show” featuring guitars, rock, and Jesus… then congratulations—you’ve officially joined the Cultural Purity Talent Show, sponsored by White Nostalgia™.

I mean, come on. Bad Bunny?

He’s the most streamed artist in the world. He fills stadiums across continents. His videos rack up more millions of views in a week than some of these dudes have teeth. Of course they chose him. It’s the most boringly obvious commercial decision ever made. It’s not a conspiracy—it’s basic marketing. This isn’t a church potluck — it’s a $7 billion ad bonanza choreographed by marketing interns on Adderall. They’re not going to book Sleaford Mods just because I want to cry in a corner to British class rage and bleeps.

But here we are again—caught in a frothing little storm of right-wing victim cosplay. The same people who think drag queens are the downfall of Western civilization are now clutching their pearls over… a reggaetón superstar. Because he dares to sing in the world’s second most spoken language — and doesn’t wrap himself in a flag while doing it.

You’d think the Super Bowl booked Che Guevara to DJ with a bloodied machete and a piñata full of fentanyl.

Instead, it’s Bad Bunny—charming, genre-bending, stylish-as-hell Bad Bunny. And what the right sees is an assault on all that is holy. A threat to “traditional values.” An infiltrator. An outsider. A beat they can’t clap on.

And so, like clockwork, the counter-programming emerges:

“A faith-based halftime alternative!”
“Real music, like guitars!”
“Family-friendly, like Jesus!”

I almost respect the hustle. It’s a kind of performance art at this point—reverse culture jamming where they invent a fantasy threat, act mortally wounded by it, then offer themselves as saviors in a Christian rock tent.

It’s not even that they hate Bad Bunny. They don’t know Bad Bunny. They just know he doesn’t sound like their America.

And that’s the real trigger.

He’s not catering to them. He’s not begging for their approval. He’s making them irrelevant by simply existing on the world stage, fully himself.

So of course they feel threatened. This wasn’t about music. It was about the mirror. And they hated what they saw in it.

So here’s a pro tip: If you’re still mad about the halftime show this morning, you’re not having a political reaction. You’re having a cultural extinction tantrum. And I promise you this: no amount of gospel guitar solos will resurrect your imagined past.

But go ahead. Book the Christian halftime. I’ll be watching Bad Bunny—tongue out, hips swaying, history unbothered.
