Yesterday, I shared a piece inspired by a moment from streamer CaseOh, who said:
“We live in a dadgum society where you get cooked if you say something good about somebody… I’m gonna keep on glazing too, bubba.”
It stuck with me, and it got me thinking: how often do we take the time to openly celebrate the people who’ve impacted us—especially those outside our immediate circle?
So this week, I’m doing just that. Five days of glazing. Five posts for five people who have shaped me, inspired me, or cracked something open in me—whether they knew it or not.
Today, I want to glaze KC Goldsby.
When Mary Ann and I started college, we both worked at Gadzooks—a chain clothing store that lived somewhere between Hot Topic, The Buckle, and pure mall chaos. That’s where we met KC—a tall, flamboyant, magnetic presence who made every trip to the mall feel like a show you didn’t want to miss.
Kansas City (yes, that’s what KC stands for) was the most joyful, expressive, and confidently themself person I’d ever encountered—especially coming out of rural Oklahoma and a conservative religious background. KC was a walking invitation to stop apologizing for who you are. They didn’t just own their identity—they thrived in it.
We never became close friends, but KC’s influence was steady—a slow-burn kind of permission. Permission to break molds. Permission to express without fear. Permission to feel good about standing out.
And what I love even more? KC’s authenticity has never wavered. All these years later, I still find joy watching them live their life. They direct plays, choreograph, guide younger folks toward self-expression, and just generally kick ass by being exactly who they are.
KC, thank you.
And to anyone reading—take a second today to glaze somebody in your world. Drop a comment, send a message, post a note. Say the thing.
Four more days of glazing to come. Let’s keep it going.
